Self-love is something we as humans need to get better at. We need to get better at protecting our feelings and our minds. Feeding our souls what they need and keeping our thoughts at peace with each other. This year I’ve been met with many a bad day so far. My anxiety is slowly creeping back and I’ve really felt the pressure. When I have these days, I try to go through the motions of what makes me feel better. For me, its comfort and familiarity. I like to be at home, with a blanket on the sofa usually a dog or two on my lap and some alone time. Finding what settles me and makes me feel balanced again has helped me get back to feeling tip-top a lot quicker, rather than trying to work through it with things that didn’t work.
I’ve put together a little list of things that really help me when I’m having a bad day. I wanted to share it with you – in case you’re having a bad day too. Enjoy, and don’t forget to leave me some comments letting me know what helps you through a bad day.
Buy myself some flowers and tidy my space. One of the biggest things that help settle my anxiety is tidying up and making my space neat. I always love to have fresh flowers in my room too, so I’ll generally pop out and grab a bunch to put next to my bed.
Enjoy a nice meal. I generally don’t eat junk when I’m having a bad day, it usually makes me feel worse! Instead, I’ll try to cook a comforting home meal – like a Thai curry, or some pasta. Something that fills me up and takes a little while to prepare. Cooking is very therapeutic to me and it makes me feel accomplished on an otherwise useless day.
Pamper yo’self. This seems so cliché but it’s SO good for when I’m feeling down. I love the feeling of a hot shower, using my fave products and lounging in comfy clothes for the rest of the day. My favourite pamper products to use are The Comforter by Lush, Mario Badescu enzyme mask and a few other you’ll see a blog post on soon! Hehe.
A social media ban. I try to stay away from my phone as much as I can when I’m in a bad head space. There are so many apps, photos, articles, statuses that draw me into a thousand different moods and make me feel agitated and unsettled. I avoid my phone, leave it downstairs or on airplane mode so that I can focus on one thing at a time. Time away from my phone relaxes me so much.
I’d love to know how you show yourself love on a bad day!
Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed!
As always, love Lyd x
