4 Acids You Should Be Using In Your Skin Care Routine

The word acid sounds bad from the get go doesn’t it? The truth is, there are so many acids in the skin care we already use, yet the thought of applying acid to our faces seems so far fetched. Acids are an amazing tool in skin care, and aren’t as scary as they sounds – in fact, most of them are derived from natural ingredients. Today I’m going to run you through some common acids and their uses, in a bid to reassure you all that they’re not as bad as they sound – enjoy!

Glycolic Acid
This little bad boy is derived from cane sugar. Yes, sugar is the momma of this scary sounding skin care agent. Glycolic acid is an amazing tool for gently exfoliating the top layer of your skin. It aids in reducing fine lines and wrinkles, brightening dull skin and helping to unblock pores. Sounds like a winner right? You can benefit the most from this acid by grabbing some glycolic pads from your favourite skin care brand, there are so many to choose from. My personal recommendations would be Malin + Goetz or Dr Dennis Gross. You can shop them both here: www.meccabeauty.co.nz

Salicylic Acid
Now this one is your friend if you have acne prone and clogged skin. Salicylic acid works to breakdown the cells that clog the skin therefore helping to clear the skin. Overtime, this acid can reduce oiliness and scarring from past breakouts by encouraging your skin to renew the surface cells.

Hyaluronic Acid
Not all acids work to clear out your skin, in fact, they can be incredibly effective at penetrating deep into your skin to rehydrate and renew. It works by attracting water molecules to your skins surface and reduces the oil that your face produces when it feels dehydrated.

Lactic Acid
Last but not least we have lactic acid. This is a great option for those of you who would love the benefits on glycolic acid but suffer from sensitive and irritable skin. This ingredient is great at anti-aging and leaves the skin feeling soft and smooth.

Do you recognise any of these acids from your skin care routine? Are there any you’ll be trying out?

As always, find me on Instagram and Bloglovin‘ and thanks for reading!

Love, Lydia xo
